Having a problem with my Internet

Hi all,,
I need some help. Since this morning, I've been overwhelmed with pop-ups. My pop-up blocker is on, I ran a full system security scan, and ran my SpyWare program. I removed everything the SpyWare program found, but nothing worked. Whenever I'm trying to do something online, other websites pop up everywhere. Does anyone have any idea what's going on, and what I can do about it? Last night, everything was working fine. It just started doing this this morning. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Oh no! that doesn't sound good. What antivirus program are you using? perhaps, a different one might pick something up. It sounds like you've got something. I can't think of any other reason why you'd be getting pop ups like that. Hope this problem is resolved for you soon.

Well, right now, I'm using Norton. I know that a lot of people say that it's not the one to have, but for now, it's what I've got. Some really weird things have been going on, and I'm just so nervous and afraid of someone maybe trying to hack into my computer. I've never had to deal with a problem like this before, so I'm totally lost on what to do.

do you have you fire wall turned on?

Post 5 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 21-Feb-2008 12:22:36

Yes I do. I definitely make sure to have that turned on.

You might want to try AVG Antivirus. it's free and though it doesn't catch everything, it may be able to detect this. Also, I know you said that you have a spyware remover, but try Search and Destroy if you haven't. It's another freebie and is very good at catching unwanted stuff.

I use avg antivirus and haven't had a problem with it

Thanks. I'll try another Spyware program. I think I'm also going to try another antivirus program because, like many others, I'm not all that thrilled with Norton. I'll need to find another firewall, though.

Ugh, you guys. this is so ridiculous. Pop ups are coming from every direction! I have two questions about the search and Destroy. One, is it compatible with JAWS? Two, what's the difference between the free version and the version that costs? I did a Google search for Search and Destroy, and it showed me a link that said it was the official home page, but I wanted to make sure that it was correct, seeing how I'm having all these problems. So, if someone would please post a link to their website, I'd appreciate it so much.

Hey hope you get that problem solved. Yeh, go with avg. I had norton and I don't like it. A good place to find spy bot search and destroy is www.jaws-users.com. Click on the programs page and you should find it. On that same site, there are scripts to make spy bot accesible with jaws. I also recommend addaware. You can find that on the same site, www.jaws-users.com. Hope this helps.

I don't know if that's on the jaws users website, but I think it is. You could also go to www.grisoft.com and find avg antivirus, antispyware, and antimalware, which is a mix of both.

I have avg antivirus on this laptop and the windows firewall that is already on the computer is turned on.

Thanks all. I'm still having problems. I tried to download Search and destroy, but it didn't work. It appears that they are no longer offering a free version. When I downloaded the program and did a scan, it showed me everything that it found, but it said that it couldn't get rid of anything until I purchase the program. I don't mind buying the program, but I was really hoping that the free version was still available, so that I could get rid of everything that it found. I have also tried running my Ad-Aware, but whenever I do that, it seems to only find cookies, which is ridiculous to me, because I can delete the cookies from Internet tools. Maybe there's a step that I'm missing when running the scan. I don't know. I just want all these issues solved. I guess I'm going to have to buy the Spybot Search and destroy, which means I'm going to have to wait even longer, until the program gets here.

hmm, thats weird. Really weird. Do the pop-ups have a specific title? I know of an instane where the pop-ups say CID at the tile or something like that. Others say internet monitor.

Post 20 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Monday, 10-Mar-2008 12:47:36

The pop ups don't seem to say anything specific. It's just a whole bunch of different sites. Everything from eBay to adult sites, and everything in between.

hmm, haven't used spybot s&d, but perhaps you got the wrong download?

hae gemini, I can suggest you few things. try if you are interested.

1. bring back your internet to the default settings. for which, go to the internet options and hit control tab until you reach advance. and then tab over to restore defaults button and hit either spacebar or enter.

2. have you installed any softwares offlate? think of that. if you have installed, remove that first and check it up.

3. go to add/remove programs and check whether any unwanted softwares are there. cause, sometimes, while we're installing something like messengers, some anoying softwares like free yahoo toolbar and some other toolbars may also be installed with that.

4. try using super antispyware and its fully accessible with jaws and I'm making use of it.

This is what I can think as of now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have checked my add/remove programs list, and there doesn't seem to be anything new in there. I'm guessing there's some kind of trojan or something causing all the problems. I just have to find it.

Has anyone used the AVG Internet security? I believe that's what it's called. They offer a 30 day trial, which I'm thinking of trying, but I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it's compatible with JAWS.

Post 25 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 13-Mar-2008 17:36:15

Youu might want to try avg antimalware. You can buy it at a computer store. I think it's like 69 dollars or something but it works well and is accessable. You have to buy a liscense every two years though. Avg antimalware is an antivirus and antrspywarre program rolled in to one.

Post 26 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 11:12:32

That's kind of what the AVG Internet security is, too. It has an anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, and some other stuff. I'm probably going to try the 30 day version, to see how well it works, and to see if it's compatible with JAWS.
